MSB is an abbreviation for MONEY SERVICE BUSINESS, which is doing any activities related to money transfers, virtual money transfers, Forex exchange dealing, issuing or redeeming money orders, traveler’s cheques, or anything similar. This means, that if you want to do any of these activities in Canada, you should obtain an MSB license first. MSB license should be obtained by companies, which are registered in Canada.
Mostly, these licensed entities can conduct the following activities:
– Money remittances
– FX/FOREX dealing
– Cryptocurrency exchange
The MSB license activities permit also includes credit/debit card issuing; IBAN account opening.
An MSB-licensed entity could be “passporting” its services offered to the entire European Union, under the auspices of the Canada-EU trade agreement.
